PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA February 12, 2026 — The Ministry of Digital, through the National AI Office (NAIO), today announced a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) via the AWS AI Academy. This initiative supports the agenda Towards an AI Nation 2030 by enhancing digital capabilities within the public sector.
The AI for Productivity and Decision-Making programme aims to equip government officers with the knowledge and practical skills to responsibly apply emerging technologies in their daily tasks. This will strengthen evidence-based policy development, boost productivity, and improve the delivery of public services.
Aligned with the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030, Malaysia is progressing towards an “AI-Enabled Government” that empowers civil servants through intelligent automation. By reducing routine and repetitive tasks, officers can focus on strategic priorities and delivering greater value to the people.
The programme emphasises five key priorities:
– Strengthening policy capabilities to support more robust, data-driven decision-making.
– Deepening institutional understanding of new technologies and governance considerations.
– Enhancing applied digital capabilities to improve productivity and operational effectiveness.
– Encouraging exploration of practical use cases relevant to government functions.
– Fostering a problem-solving approach to elevate the quality and efficiency of services.
Speaking at the workshop, Tuan Ma. Sivanesan Marimuthu, Deputy Secretary General (Digital Development), Ministry of Digital, emphasised that AI adoption must be grounded in collaboration, strong governance, and accountability. He highlighted that cross-agency learning and consistent standards are critical to building a confident, capable, and responsible public sector in its use of AI.
The programme focuses on practical applications through interactive sessions, including a Service Design Workshop where public sector officers collaboratively develop technology-enabled service frameworks, and a Policy Lab that allows participants to evaluate and test policy scenarios using comparative case studies.
Activities are designed as a “sandbox” learning environment, enabling participants to explore agency-specific challenges, exchange insights, and strengthen whole-of-government understanding of technology integration.
This initiative marks the first regional rollout of the AWS AI Academy for the public sector, with Malaysia selected due to its clear policy direction and growing readiness to responsibly adopt advanced digital technologies in government administration.
The programme reinforces a whole-of-government approach by promoting cross-agency learning, shared understanding, and consistent governance practices in the public sector. It aligns with Malaysia’s people-centred innovation agenda, guided by principles of trust, responsibility, and meaningful socioeconomic outcomes.
