PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, Sept 20, 2025 — Malaysia’s Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) is set to kick off a trial of its new National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) this Sunday, introducing QR code-based checks for drivers and passengers at select border points with Singapore.

The initial phase, starting September 22, will focus exclusively on car lanes at two key entry points: Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) in Johor Bahru, where 16 lanes (eight inbound and eight outbound) will be equipped, and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB), with 12 lanes (six inbound and six outbound).
Travelers will need to use the MyNIISe mobile app to generate and scan QR codes during immigration processing. The process is straightforward: Download the app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Huawei AppGallery; create a QR code either individually or for a group; and scan it at designated lanes.
To ease adoption, the ministry has released step-by-step guides, including posters and videos, on its official social media channels—Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok—under KDN and NIISe accounts. Regular updates will also be posted on these platforms.
As of September 19, the app has already seen over 10,000 downloads, indicating strong early interest. The ministry is encouraging feedback during the trial, which can be submitted via email at support_myniise@imi.gov.my.
Following the car lane rollout, the system will expand to motorcycle lanes and pedestrian or bus passenger areas in the coming month, with further phases to be announced.
This initiative aims to streamline immigration procedures at busy southern borders, potentially reducing wait times for the millions of commuters who cross daily between Malaysia and Singapore.
