SINDUMIN, SABAH, MALAYSIA Oct 15, 2025 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil attended a Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) program today at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sindumin in Sipitang, highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to boost online safety awareness among schoolchildren.

Organized by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) under the Ministry of Communications, the event drew 90 students from Years 4 to 6. It forms part of a broader rollout that has already reached 22 of Sipitang’s 29 schools, with the remaining seven slated for implementation in the coming weeks to ensure full coverage in the district.

The initiative underscores MCMC’s dedication to strengthening digital literacy and fostering responsible internet habits among students, addressing the growing risks of online threats in educational settings.

Launched in January 2025, KIS has engaged 4,734 educational institutions nationwide, spanning the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Higher Education. This includes 52 public higher learning institutions, colleges, and teacher training institutes. In Sabah alone, 434 institutions have benefited from the program.

To amplify its reach—particularly across Sabah’s 1,298 schools—MCMC is forging strategic partnerships with other ministries, government agencies, and industry players. These collaborations not only enhance student understanding but also rally school and community support toward the vision of “Our Internet, A Safe Internet.”

The Sipitang event was attended by Ministry of Communications Secretary-General Dato’ Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa; Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah; MCMC Deputy Director General (Regulatory and Corporate) Datuk Zurkarnain Mohd Yasin; Sipitang District Officer Abd. Karim A.M Zahari; and SK Sindumin Principal Abdul Rasid Penghulu.

The expansion reflects a proactive response to the digital age’s challenges, equipping young Malaysians with essential tools for safe navigation of the online world.
