PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, July 7, 2025 — Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi chaired the first 2025 High-Level Committee Meeting on Refugee and Asylum Seeker Management today, addressing the growing challenges of refugee and asylum issues with a renewed national approach.

The meeting focused on strengthening regulatory frameworks, enhancing cooperation with international bodies, reinforcing security and enforcement measures, and advancing diplomatic efforts for refugee resettlement. Emphasis was also placed on strategic communication to ensure the public understands the government’s policies, balancing humanitarian principles with national security.
“We are not only safeguarding our borders but also defending the nation’s dignity,” Ahmad Zahid said. “Malaysia must be seen not as a free pass but as a sovereign nation with principles—humane yet resolute against threats.”
He reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to protecting its citizens’ safety and upholding the nation’s honor, stating, “InshaAllah, we will continue to speak, act, and stand firm for the security of our people and the dignity of our beloved country.”
