PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, July 11, 2025 — Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim hosted Australian Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong on Friday morning, reaffirming the robust partnership between the two nations, rooted in ties established in 1957.

During the courtesy call, part of Wong’s working visit to Malaysia, discussions focused on deepening cooperation in smart manufacturing, digital economy, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy. Anwar welcomed Australia’s interest in these sectors and extended an invitation for Australian participation in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) in September, highlighting the halal economy’s potential as a catalyst for future collaboration.
Education remains a cornerstone of Malaysia-Australia relations. Anwar announced plans for a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed at the Annual Leaders’ Meeting in October, covering STEM, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), curriculum development, and student exchange programs.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude for Australia’s AUD500,000 contribution to bolster Malaysia’s vaccine development capabilities through training and research funding.
Looking ahead, Anwar eagerly anticipated Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s visit in October, which is expected to mark a new chapter in bilateral relations. The visit aims to advance shared goals of trust, mutual values, and a peaceful, prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
