The meeting featured Go Golfing’s Business Development Manager, Mr. Adrian Lawson, who outlined the company’s impressive track record in organizing high-profile golf events. Minister Tiong expressed optimism about Go Golfing considering Malaysia as a future host for international tournaments, highlighting the potential to attract Australian golf enthusiasts for both competitive and leisure purposes. “Malaysia’s diverse and high-quality golf courses offer a unique opportunity to showcase our tourism offerings,” Tiong remarked.

Lawson shared that Go Golfing is well-acquainted with Malaysia’s golfing infrastructure and plans to conduct detailed assessments of courses nationwide. The company intends to select one or two venues for hosting competitions or friendly matches, with a possible inclusion in the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026 calendar. This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s goal to attract 35.6 million tourists and generate RM147.1 billion in receipts by 2026, as outlined in the Tourism Malaysia roadmap.

A highlight of the discussion was Go Golfing’s World Masters Championship, an annual Southeast Asia event drawing over 1,000 participants. Lawson revealed plans to potentially host a leg of the 2026 championship in Kuala Lumpur, anticipating 400 to 500 golfers to participate. This could significantly elevate Malaysia’s profile in the global golfing community.

Minister Tiong emphasized Malaysia’s rich golfing landscape, noting top-tier courses in states like Johor, Melaka, Pahang, and Perak. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s full support for Go Golfing’s entry into the Malaysian market, expressing gratitude for their collaborative spirit. “This partnership holds tremendous potential to bring international golfers to experience Malaysia’s fairways,” Tiong concluded.

The collaboration marks a promising step toward strengthening tourism ties between Malaysia and Australia, with further developments expected as site visits and planning progress.
