KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA February 13, 2026 – The government is actively studying the use of MyKad as a monitoring mechanism for the Cooking Oil Price Stabilization Scheme (COSS) to prevent subsidy leakage and ensure the assistance reaches eligible citizens.
Minister of Finance II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, disclosed this while answering questions during the Dewan Rakyat sitting, First Meeting of the Fifth Session, on 12 February.
He said the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is conducting an in-depth study to expand the use of the existing MyKad ecosystem, including integration with the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) system.
“This approach enables us to leverage infrastructure that is already in place without adding any burden to the people, while ensuring that only eligible citizens enjoy the cooking oil subsidy,” he explained.
He also emphasised the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to work closely with KPDN through a ‘whole-of-nation’ approach to strengthen the integrity of the subsidy system and comprehensively curb leakage.
The government will continue to refine existing mechanisms and prudently study the wider use of MyKad in the future, supported by stricter enforcement.
This initiative is regarded as an important reform step to ensure subsidised cooking oil is channelled fairly, accurately, and conveniently to the targeted groups.
