PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA January 18, 2026 — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has seized 3,545 pieces of gold in various forms that allegedly fail to meet the advertised purity standards during a special operation at the Kuchai Lama Entrepreneurs Park yesterday.
The operation, known as Ops Tulen, was conducted by KPDN’s Enforcement Division under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 (Act 730). Six enforcement officers raided a premises that was selling gold products through social media platforms.
Tests using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) equipment showed that gold coins stamped AU 999.9 contained only an average of 77% pure gold. Further tests on the seized items revealed varying gold content ranging from 80% to 98%, despite each 0.01-gram piece being claimed as high-purity.
The premises is suspected of serving as a supplier to online retailers marketing the same products. It is alleged to have breached Sections 5(1)(a) and 5(1)(c) of Act 730 regarding false trade descriptions on precious metal purity standards.
Enforcement officers also seized related equipment and documents for further investigation. The estimated total value of the seized items is RM82,725.
KPDN reaffirmed its commitment to step up enforcement to curb misleading business practices that deceive consumers, especially in the precious metals trade.

Any party convicted under Act 730 faces penalties including fines of up to RM250,000 or imprisonment for up to three years (or both) for individuals on a first offence, and fines of up to RM1 million for companies on subsequent offences.
