PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA March 18, 2026 – The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has busted a two-storey premises in Kuala Lumpur believed to be involved in the storage and sale of counterfeit branded watches.
The raid was conducted by the KPDN Enforcement Division on 13 March 2026 under the Trade Marks Act 2019 (Act 815). It was based on intelligence gathered over nearly a month and carried out in collaboration with representatives of the trademark owners.
Authorities seized a total of 790 units of various famous-brand watches suspected to be counterfeit. Also confiscated were branded boxes, paper bags and other items believed to be used for storing and selling the products. The total estimated value of the seized items is RM790,600.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the illegal operation was managed by a local man in his 30s who served as the premises manager. He is believed to be responsible for the entire operation, including premise management, stock control and sales activities.
The suspect ran the business in a highly secretive manner inside the two-storey building. The ground floor was used as a watch repair and servicing workshop, while the upper floor was turned into the sales and storage area for the counterfeit watches to disguise the actual illegal activities.
The premises was tightly secured with a locked glass door that could only be opened using a remote control from inside and was equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. Sales were allegedly conducted only to selected customers to avoid detection by authorities. The fake watches were sourced from overseas suppliers before being distributed to buyers. The suspect has since been detained to assist in further investigations.
The case is being investigated under the Trade Marks Act 2019 for allegedly using registered trademarks without the permission of the rightful owners.
KPDN has stressed that the ministry will not compromise with any parties involved in the sale or distribution of counterfeit goods, as such activities not only violate the law but also infringe on the rights of trademark owners and harm consumer interests.
