SEPANG, MALAYSIA February 9,2026 – The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), through the National Landscape Department (Jabatan Lanskap Negara, JLN), has completed a major beautification project at the main entrance of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 in just six months.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming officiated the project launch yesterday, describing it as a strategic initiative to create a stunning first impression for international visitors in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026).
“The fast-track implementation, with an allocation of RM3 million, was completed in six months, saving significant time, resources, and costs,” said Nga Kor Ming.
He added that the new landscaping not only offers scenic views but also serves as a key attraction, indirectly boosting the nation’s return on investment through increased foreign tourist arrivals.
Themed “Harmony in Diversity”, the project incorporates design elements that reflect Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage, ethnic diversity, natural resources, and biodiversity.
Nga also urged all State Authorities (Pihak Berkuasa Negeri) and Local Authorities (Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan) to enhance the image and identity of their respective areas, particularly by beautifying protocol roads and main gateways with attractive tropical plants that symbolise Malaysia’s unique character.
The project is divided into four main zones:
- Zone A – Vertical landscaping at Terminal 1 and 2 buildings
- Zone B – Landscaping along sections of the main exit road from the terminal
- Zone C – Belantara (wilderness) alignment
- Zone D – MADANI Gateway, featuring a prominent “Welcome to Malaysia” signage, tropical shrub planting, and solar-powered lighting
The launch ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister Datuk Hajah Aiman Athirah binti Sabu, KPKT Secretary-General Datuk Wira Dr. M Noor Azman bin Taib, senior ministry officials, Malaysia Airports Managing Director Dato’ Mohd Izani bin Ghani, and representatives from related agencies.
The project underscores KPKT’s commitment to sustainable development and national aesthetic enhancement under the Malaysia MADANI framework.
