KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA April 11, 2026 – The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dato’ Sri Hj. Mohd Khalid bin Hj. Ismail, has praised the dedication of Royal Malaysia Police (RMP/PDRM) personnel and strategic partners for the success of Op Selamat 25 and 26 in 2026, even though the operations recorded a slight increase in road accidents and fatal cases.
In his speech text at the Op Selamat 25 & 26 Appreciation Ceremony held last night at Dewan Pengaman, Pulapol Kuala Lumpur, the IGP emphasised that both operations — conducted in conjunction with the 2026 Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri — successfully fulfilled their vision of reducing accidents, minimising loss of life, ensuring smooth traffic flow, and strengthening crime prevention.
“Op Selamat was carried out with a clear vision, which is to reduce the rate of accidents, minimise the number of lives lost, and ensure smooth traffic flow, including crime prevention activities through fast and efficient response,” he said.
Among the achievements highlighted were the regular patrols by the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) Unit and the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) to 61,122 homes, which successfully reduced crime cases from 858 in 2025 to 747 this time. The Volunteer Smartphone Petrol (VSP) application, which now has more than 1.7 million registered users, also showed a dramatic increase, with 16,889 users utilising the “return to hometown” reporting module compared to only 8,036 the previous year — more than double the usage.
The IGP called for the continuation of the holistic approach involving synergy between the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) and the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), the use of Pasukan Gerakan Udara drones, and the strategies of “Pre-Emptive Services”, “Total Enforcement”, “Share the Journey, Share the Comfort”, and “Safety First”.
However, he acknowledged ongoing challenges, noting that statistics showed a nearly 1% increase in total accidents — 9,934 cases compared to 9,859 cases in the previous similar operation. More concerning was the nearly 17% rise in fatal accidents, from 77 cases to 90 cases. Meanwhile, a total of 144,726 summonses were issued nationwide — an increase of 37,361 summonses or 34.8% compared to 107,365 summonses during Op Selamat 24.
“Therefore, I urge every road user to always remember to obey the law, be patient, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and get sufficient rest before starting their journey. Remember, a life has no replacement,” the IGP stressed.
He expressed special appreciation to the main sponsors, Telekom Malaysia Berhad and PLUS Malaysia Berhad, as well as other strategic partners including the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, Road Transport Department, St. John Ambulance, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Malaysian Highway Authority, and the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).
The RMP will award the Inspector General of Police Appreciation Certificates to strategic partners and announce the Best Contingent and Best District Awards for Op Selamat 25 & 26 as tokens of recognition.
Before concluding his speech, the IGP extended congratulations on the 10th Anniversary to all personnel of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) and urged them to continue raising the momentum of excellence with stronger resolve and more innovative strategies to ensure every journey by Malaysians is safe, comfortable, and meaningful.
