Immigration Department Cracks Down on Illegal Migrants in Ranau, 40 Detained

RANAU, SABAH, Malaysia Aug 5, 2025 – The Sabah Immigration Department (JIM) conducted a series of enforcement operations in Kundasang, Ranau, on Tuesday, detaining 40 undocumented migrants for alleged violations of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963.

The operations, carried out at four separate locations in the Ranau district, involved 18 officers from the Ranau Immigration Office. Out of 48 individuals screened, 40 undocumented migrants were arrested, comprising 26 adult males, six adult females, seven male children, and one female child. The detainees, all foreign nationals from Indonesia and the Philippines, lacked valid travel documents or permits.

The individuals are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

JIM Sabah reiterated its commitment to taking firm action against undocumented migrants and those who harbor or employ them. The department urged the public to provide information on the presence of illegal migrants in their areas to aid enforcement efforts.
