PUTRAJAYA. Malaysia, July 16, 2025 – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail met with Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook earlier today to address the ongoing issue of cable theft along the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) alignment.

Describing the matter as a serious concern, Saifuddin emphasized that cable theft is not only a crime against public property but also threatens to disrupt the momentum, schedule, and smooth execution of the ECRL mega-project.
“We are reviewing short-term and long-term strategic measures to eradicate such incidents comprehensively,” Saifuddin said in a statement. He reaffirmed the Home Ministry’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with enforcement agencies to tackle the issue more effectively and decisively.
The ECRL, a key infrastructure project, has faced repeated setbacks due to cable theft, prompting urgent calls for enhanced security measures to safeguard its progress.
