Home Minister Confident in Security for 47th ASEAN Summit as Kuala Lumpur Gears Up to Host Regional Leaders

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA Oct 24, 2025 – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on Saturday voiced strong confidence in Malaysia’s security preparations for the 47th ASEAN Summit, assuring the public that Kuala Lumpur is fully primed to welcome 23 government heads from across the region this week.

In a statement issued following a comprehensive briefing from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, Saifuddin emphasized that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has elevated its readiness to the highest standards. “I am confident that the preparations are now at their best level,” he said, highlighting the deployment of 10,400 specialized police personnel to safeguard the event throughout its duration.

Training exercises and dry runs have been underway since October 16, meticulously simulating protocol routes, including the arrival of dignitaries at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Subang Airport. To minimize disruptions, temporary road closures will be implemented in phases rather than a full lockdown, with authorities urging full public cooperation, particularly in areas surrounding the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) and hotels accommodating the delegations.

“The security of the government heads and international delegates remains our utmost priority,” Saifuddin stated. “Every location has been identified and tightly controlled in accordance with international security standards.”

Saifuddin also addressed the balance between democratic freedoms and event safety, acknowledging that differing viewpoints and civil society activities are recognized rights within Malaysia’s democratic framework. However, he stressed the importance of collaboration with security forces to preserve the nation’s image as a gracious host on the global stage.

Expressing full trust in the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, and Selangor Police Chief, Saifuddin described the summit as more than a diplomatic gathering. “It is a symbol of the world’s capability and confidence in Malaysia as a safe, stable, and orderly nation under the Madani Government,” he added.

The 47th ASEAN Summit, hosted in Kuala Lumpur, is poised to foster discussions on regional cooperation amid evolving geopolitical dynamics. With enhanced security measures in place, officials anticipate a seamless event that reinforces Malaysia’s stature in Southeast Asia. Public advisories have been issued via social media and local broadcasts to guide commuters and residents through any temporary adjustments.
