Hannah Yeoh Voices Concerns Over Online Games’ Impact on Children, Roblox Pledges Enhanced Safety Measures

PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA Nov 3, 2025 – Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh today expressed profound concerns as both a mother and a leader about the influence of online games like Roblox, which can affect children’s behavior and emotions.

In an official statement, she highlighted that the Roblox platform now boasts over 100 million users worldwide, including more than one million in Malaysia. “As Minister of Youth and Sports and also a mother, I am worried when I see how some online games can affect children’s behavior and emotions,” Yeoh stated.

She further disclosed that these concerns had been directly raised with Roblox representatives, who assured a strong commitment to bolstering safety features. Promised initiatives include leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) technology and human oversight, alongside close collaboration with the Malaysian government—particularly on data sharing and adherence to local regulations.

“With such a vast reach, the responsibility to protect young users cannot be taken lightly,” she added, calling on all stakeholders to ensure the digital realm is not only entertaining but also fosters proper character and values for future generations.

The statement arrives amid ongoing government deliberations on online gaming platform safety, including potential restrictions or bans to shield children from harmful content. Yeoh reiterated: “We want a digital world that is not only entertaining but also builds proper character and values for future generations.”

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has urged parents, educators, and the technology sector to join forces in this endeavor, transforming cyberspace into a safe and enriching environment for the nation’s youth.
