Government Reviews Amendments to Subsidized LPG Regulations for Small-Scale Traders

PUTRAJAYA, June 10, 2025 – A stakeholder engagement session on the proposed amendments to the Supply Control Regulations (Amendment) 2021 was held today, focusing on revising restrictions on the use of subsidized LPG in commercial and business activities, particularly to address the needs of micro and small-scale food and beverage traders.

Led by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, the session saw various recommendations and views presented. He urged all participating associations to gather feedback from their members and submit a memorandum of proposals to the Technical Committee for Amendment Review, chaired by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

Following Cabinet approval on June 5, 2025, the Government agreed to amend the regulations gazetted in 2021. However, specific details must be finalized to ensure legal clarity. Key considerations include defining the business levels of food and beverage traders, business ownership status, LPG requirements, control and reporting mechanisms, monitoring and enforcement effectiveness, and comprehensive strategies to curb leakages.

The session was attended by 10 relevant associations, alongside Tuan Cha Kee Chin, Chairman of the Special Select Committee on Domestic Trade, Entrepreneurship, Cost of Living, and Agriculture, and Rasah Member of Parliament.

Datuk Armizan reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring the amendments benefit small traders while strengthening the governance of subsidized LPG usage.
