EKVE Highway Opening Awaits Confirmation, MP Pushes for Clarity

BANGI, Malaysia, July 2, 2025 — The long-awaited East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) is nearing completion, but an exact opening date for Section 1 (Sungai Long to Ampang) remains unconfirmed, according to Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan. During a May 2025 site visit, EKVE and Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM) announced a target opening for July 2025, a timeline shared with the public. However, no specific date was provided.

Syahredzan acknowledged the anticipation among residents, who have waited years for the highway’s completion, but noted the absence of updated information on the precise opening. “I am aware many are expecting the highway to open soon, but I do not have current details on the exact timeline,” he said. He pledged to press EKVE and LLM for clarity and ensure timely communication with the public.

The government’s commitment to the project was underscored by a June 2025 site visit from Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. The 36.16 km EKVE, part of the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR), has faced delays due to legal disputes, financial challenges, and past issues like land acquisition and pandemic-related setbacks. Recent reports indicate Section 1 was nearly complete by May 2025, with a safety inspection planned for June, while Section 2 (Ampang to Ukay Perdana) is 76% finished, targeting full operation by January 2026.

As the MP for Bangi, Syahredzan vowed to continue advocating for the highway’s swift completion. “Residents have waited so long for EKVE to be built and opened. I will keep putting pressure for it to be finalized,” he said. He urged the public to await official updates from EKVE, emphasizing patience until confirmed details are released.

For further information, residents are advised to monitor announcements from EKVE or LLM.
