PUTRAJAYA Malaysia, August 5, 2025 – The Digital Ministry is intensifying efforts to tackle online scams through proactive measures, including the introduction of AI guidelines and training programs under the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). These initiatives, such as the “AI Untuk Rakyat” and MD Workforce programs, aim to enhance digital literacy and curb the rising threat of scams driven by artificial intelligence, including deepfake videos.

The ministry, in collaboration with CyberSecurity Malaysia and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), is also developing an AI-based application to verify the authenticity of images and videos. This tool is expected to aid cybercrime investigations, targeting issues like online fraud, identity theft, and the spread of digital misinformation.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo emphasized the ministry’s commitment to building a secure, responsible, and resilient AI ecosystem to comprehensively address online scams. These efforts align with Malaysia’s ambition to become a regional leader in the digital economy and cybersecurity.
“These initiatives will empower our workforce and enhance our capabilities in combating emerging threats in the digital space,” the statement read.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns over AI-generated content fueling misinformation and crimes in the online realm.
