KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA January 26, 2026 – Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today outlined the government’s key performance indicators for measuring the progress of Malaysia’s digital economy from 2025 to 2030 during an oral question session in the Dewan Rakyat.
Responding to a question from Kubang Pasu MP Dato’ Wira Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail, Gobind said the Ministry of Digital would comprehensively monitor advancements in line with national frameworks, including the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and the Malaysia Digital Economy Action Framework 2026–2030 (RTEDM).
Among the primary metrics highlighted were:
– ICT sector’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) : In 2024, the ICT and e-commerce sectors contributed 23.4% to Malaysia’s GDP, amounting to RM451.3 billion.
– Cumulative digital investments : Recorded at RM589.9 billion as of June 2024.
– Job creation : A cumulative total of 245,602 jobs generated up to June 2024.
– Revenue generation : Cumulative revenue reaching RM845.6 billion as of June 2024.
Additional indicators include export volumes, e-commerce adoption rates, the number of approved Malaysia Digital status companies, and Malaysia’s performance in global digital rankings.
The minister emphasised the government’s commitment to sustained monitoring to ensure the digital economy aligns with broader national development goals under the MADANI framework.
The exchange took place during the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament.
The announcement underscores Malaysia’s push to strengthen its position as a digital nation, building on recent achievements in attracting investments and creating high-value jobs in the technology sector.
