KOTA KINABALU, Malsysia, July 14, 2025 — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Yusof, led a delegation from the PETRA Squad to inspect the Sungai Damai Flood Mitigation Project (RTB), Basin 8, in Sabah today.

The RM48 million project, funded under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMKe-12), began in September 2023 and is currently 54% complete, with full completion expected by July 2026. The initiative includes flood mitigation, coastal erosion control, river mouth restoration, riverbank stabilization, and mechanical and electrical works. Once completed, it is expected to protect approximately 17,500 residents from flooding through upgraded drainage systems, pump houses, road culverts, and flood control gates.
The Federal Government, through PETRA, has allocated RM153.3 million for the 5th Rolling Plan of RMKe-12 in 2025, supporting 24 ongoing projects and three new initiatives under the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) Malaysia. These projects encompass flood mitigation, coastal erosion control, river mouth restoration, riverbank stabilization, and related mechanical and electrical works.
