DAPSY Condemns Akmal Saleh’s Call, Urges Resolution of Flag Issue Through Law

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, AUG 10 2025 – DAPSY National strongly condemns the statement by UMNO Youth Chief, Dr. Akmal Saleh, urging the public to “visit” a business premise in Kepala Batas over the issue of an upside-down Jalur Gemilang. DAPSY stated that this action not only portrays Akmal as attempting to act like an authority but also undermines the rule of law.

DAPSY National Chief, Woo Kah Leong, criticized Akmal’s hypocritical stance, questioning why he never mobilized similar actions against the Ministry of Education Malaysia or the Terengganu PAS Headquarters, which had made similar mistakes in the past. “This clearly shows the double standards and hypocrisy of the UMNO Youth Chief,” Woo asserted.

DAPSY emphasized that Malaysia, as a constitutional nation, must address legal violations, including errors in displaying the Jalur Gemilang, through established legal procedures, not intimidation or “mob justice.” They stressed that patriotic awareness should be fostered through education, not threats.

Woo also slammed the act of mobilizing the public to “teach a lesson” as a political gimmick that harms national unity. “A people’s representative should unite the public, not incite tension,” he said. DAPSY further criticized Akmal for politicizing the issue for personal gain, asserting that Malaysia needs leaders who prioritize peace and legal integrity, not “moral police.”

DAPSY called on all parties, especially Akmal, to stop confrontational politics that fuel hatred and division. They urged resolution through dialogue, continuous education, and adherence to the law for the nation’s progress and harmony.
