WeRide and Uber Expand Robotaxi Reach in Abu Dhabi, Ride Volumes Expected to Double

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, July 29, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD), a global leader in autonomous driving technology, and Uber Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: UBER), the world’s leading technology platform for mobility and delivery, have started operating their Robotaxis on Al Reem and Al Maryah Islands in Abu Dhabi, in partnership with the Integrated Transport Centre. The expanded service is expected to double ride volumes, now covering about half of Abu Dhabi’s core areas — including Al Reem, Al Maryah, Yas, and Saadiyat, as well as highway routes to and from Zayed International Airport.

WeRide and Uber's Robotaxi at Abu Dhabi Global Market, Al Maryah Island

Since launching in Abu Dhabi in December 2024, the WeRide and Uber Robotaxi fleet has tripled in size. Both companies aim to continue growing their fleet to hundreds of Robotaxis in Abu Dhabi, with plans to extend services into Khalifa City, Masdar City, and more areas of downtown Abu Dhabi later this year.

WeRide and Uber operate the largest Robotaxi network in the Middle East, featuring WeRide’s new GXR model — a purpose-built, mass-produced autonomous vehicle for scaled commercial deployment which fits up to five people. Each vehicle is expected to average dozens of trips per day during a 12-hour shift, with rides typically exceeding six kilometers.

“Al Reem and Al Maryah Islands are high-demand areas and serve as key gateways to Abu Dhabi. This expansion gives us the opportunity to reach more passengers, showcase our advanced technology in complex urban settings, and further accelerate the deployment of autonomous vehicles across the city. We deeply appreciate the ongoing support from the Integrated Transport Centre and our strong partnership with Uber, which continues to drive our growth in the Middle East and beyond,” said Jennifer Li, CFO and Head of International at WeRide.

“This expansion marks an important milestone in Abu Dhabi’s journey towards realising its vision for a smarter and safer mobility system. Building on the success of our previous smart mobility initiatives, we are working to extend the deployment of autonomous vehicles to high-density areas such as Al Reem and Al Maryah Islands, in order to provide a safer and more efficient travel experience, in line with Abu Dhabi’s smart transport strategy, which aims to provide sustainable and innovative mobility solutions,” said Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre. “We are committed to embracing innovative and sustainable solutions to enhance our transport network and improve the quality of life for our residents. By working closely with our strategic partners, we are accelerating this progress and enhancing the transport experience for everyone.”

“We’re pleased to expand our autonomous vehicle service in Abu Dhabi to Al Reem and Al Maryah in partnership with WeRide and with the support of the Abu Dhabi Mobility. We’ve seen some great engagement from riders in Abu Dhabi since launch and are excited to make autonomous rides more accessible to even more people in the Emirate. Just as Uber helped millions experience electric vehicles for the first time, 2025 will be the year we bring AV technology into the mainstream,” said Mohamad Jardaneh, Head of Autonomous Mobility, Middle East at Uber.

Starting today, passengers can hail WeRide Robotaxis in the new zones via the Uber and TXAI apps.

Al Reem and Al Maryah are among Abu Dhabi’s most dynamic and densely populated districts, serving as hubs for finance, residential communities, and commerce. Their heavy traffic and complex road conditions highlight WeRide’s technical expertise in deploying autonomous vehicles at scale, while advancing Abu Dhabi’s vision to become the region’s leading hub for smart mobility and innovation.

In parallel, fully driverless testing of WeRide’s Robotaxis in Abu Dhabi is underway, with public access expected in the coming months.

WeRide Robotaxi Secures Autonomous Driving Permit in Saudi Arabia, Products Now Licensed in Six Countries

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, July 28, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD), a global leader in autonomous driving technology, has announced today that its Robotaxi was granted Saudi Arabia’s first Robotaxi autonomous driving permit, making it the world’s only technology company with products holding autonomous driving permits in six countries: Saudi Arabia, China, the UAE, Singapore, France, and the US.

WeRide's Robotaxi in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

With this permit, WeRide is authorized to operate an autonomous vehicle (AV) business and deploy Robotaxis nationwide in Saudi Arabia, starting with its pilot operations in Riyadh with Uber and local partner Ai Driver.

Launched earlier this month, the pilot covers King Khalid International Airport and several key locations throughout Riyadh, including major highways and selected city center destinations. A full-scale commercial Robotaxi service is expected to launch by end-2025 through a partnership between WeRide and Uber.

WeRide’s Robotaxi was granted the permit at an official ceremony last week, attended by His Excellency Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Transport General Authority (TGA); Jennifer Li, CFO and Head of International at WeRide; and other senior Saudi government officials.

WeRide is the first AV technology company whose Robotaxi has completed the TGA’s Regulatory Sandbox for AV Piloting in Saudi Arabia. The approval process, conducted in coordination with multiple government agencies, includes rigorous testing, assessments, and technology validation to secure the Robotaxi autonomous driving permit, to ensure the highest standards of safety and performance.

“This permit marks a major step in our global expansion, enabling us to scale Robotaxi services and unlock new commercial opportunities in Saudi Arabia. It drives large-scale deployment, unlocks new revenue streams, and reinforces our commitment to making autonomous mobility a reality worldwide. We thank the TGA for supporting our vision for safer, smarter transportation at scale,” said Jennifer Li, CFO and Head of International at WeRide.

This announcement follows WeRide’s entry into Saudi Arabia in May 2025. In addition to its Robotaxi plans, WeRide has been testing and operating its Robobus in key locations including King Fahad Medical City, Aramco residential communities, AlUla, and the Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh. Its Robosweeper S1 is also in operation at King Fahad Medical City, Riyadh Second Health Cluster, marking the first monetized autonomous sanitation project in both Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East.

Beyond Saudi Arabia, WeRide has been rapidly expanding across the region in the last few months. Its Robotaxis are currently undergoing fully driverless Robotaxi testing in Abu Dhabi — the first deployment of its kind in Middle East — and will also soon extend its Robotaxi service to Dubai.

Car Thermal Night Vision by Robofinity: Enhance 2025 Night Safety

Hong Kong, July 25, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — As road safety takes center stage in 2025, Robofinity announces the release of its cutting-edge InsightDrive Car Thermal Night Vision system, redefining how drivers tackle darkness, glare, fog, and night-time dangers. With traditional night vision systems falling short under harsh conditions, Robofinity InsightDrive is becoming a must-have for every vehicle.

Imagine driving in rain, snow, or at night when traditional night vision systems let you down. These devices rely on low light or infrared fill light. They work okay in dark environments, but under strong city lights or when facing oncoming high beams, they often fail due to overexposure.
Car Thermal Night Vision: Why Every Vehicle Needs It in 2025
Traditional night vision systems rely on light—they falter in fog, rain, or the blinding glare of oncoming traffic. But Robofinity InsightDrive’s car thermal night vision uses heat detection, offering unmatched visibility where other systems fail.

Every year, 1.35 million lives are lost to traffic accidents globally—and 30%-40% happen at night. High beam glare, fog, and darkness are major contributors. Robofinity InsightDrive offers a revolutionary alternative. By sensing infrared heat signatures rather than light, it detects pedestrians, animals, and vehicles even in zero visibility—and alerts drivers before it’s too late.

What Makes Robofinity InsightDrive the Game-Changer?
See Through Fog, Darkness, and Glare—No Light Needed
Unlike regular night vision, car thermal night vision doesn’t rely on visible light. It detects heat from people, animals, and vehicles, displaying them clearly even in total darkness, fog, or heavy rain.

Explore Robofinity InsightDrive: Car Thermal Night Vision

Enhanced by AI for Split-Second Safety
Robofinity InsightDrive uses real-time AI to distinguish between humans, animals, and objects. It alerts drivers early, helping prevent crashes—even when you’re tired or distracted.

How It Outperforms Other Safety Technologies

High beams: Standard halogen high beams light 80-120 meters ahead. Car thermal night vision detects objects 200 meters away. It doesn’t blind other drivers.
LiDAR: Relies on laser reflections. In strong light, backlight, or total darkness, its performance may suffer. In contrast, car thermal night vision detects infrared radiation. It works day, night, in tunnels, or shadows.

Traditional night vision: Works in pitch black but overexposes in well-lit cities. Car thermal night vision is all-weather. It needs no external light—just object infrared. It works on moonless nights, foggy dawns, or in glare. It spots dangers early, day or night.

Robofinity InsightDrive stands out. It has an advanced Car Thermal Imaging System.

Its AI recognition is 95% accurate—almost no misidentifications. Its detection range reaches 656 feet (two football fields). It alerts you before you see hazards, giving time to brake or steer. That’s next-level safety.

For Professional Drivers: A 24/7 Safety Partner

Robofinity InsightDrive acts as a digital co-pilot, constantly scanning for threats like stray animals, hidden pedestrians, or sudden curves—reducing the likelihood of fatigue-related accidents and job disruption.

WeRide Wins Permit for Autonomous Robotaxi Service in Shanghai, Partnering with Chery to Revolutionize Urban Mobility

SHANGHAI, China, July 26, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD), a global leader of autonomous driving technology, has been granted a permit from the Shanghai municipal government to operate regulation-compliant, Level 4 (L4) autonomous Robotaxi ride-hailing services. Issued during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2025) in Shanghai, the permit enables WeRide, in partnership with Chery Group and Jinjiang Taxi, to deploy Robotaxis on public roads in Pudong New Area. This milestone also marks the WeRide Robotaxi’s official entry into its tenth city globally.

As part of WAIC’s Level 4 Intelligent Vehicle Experience Showcase, the three partners jointly launched the event’s only fully mass-produced, pre-installed L4 Robotaxi shuttle service. The service connects key Shanghai transport hubs and cultural-tourism landmarks, including the Shanghai World Expo Center, Jinqiao, Huamu, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, and Shanghai Disney Resort. Residents, tourists, and conference attendees are able to book rides through the “Jinjiang Smart Mobility” WeChat mini-program.

WeRide, Chery Group, and Jinjiang Taxi jointly launched a Robotaxi shuttle service at WAIC 2025

WeRide, a pioneer and leader in the Robotaxi industry, and Chery Group, China’s first independent brand to exceed one million vehicle sales, have joined forces to develop a new generation of mass-produced Robotaxis. Chery’s premium new energy vehicle brand, EXEED, is advancing rapidly in smart, connected, and electric mobility, with significant progress in EV platform architecture.

Together, they unveiled their jointly developed Robotaxi model — the CER — at Auto Shanghai 2025. The CER is built on WeRide’s universal autonomous driving platform, WeRide One, and EXEED’s STERRA ET vehicle architecture.

At WAIC 2025, WeRide and Chery showcased the CER in active operation. Equipped with WeRide’s High-Performance Computing platform and Sensor Suite 5.6, the CER features over 20 sensors — including cost-efficient LiDARs, HD cameras, and RTK-precision navigation modules — and incorporates five layers of redundant safety systems (steering, braking, parking, communication, and power supply redundancy). The CER’s spacious interior and extended range on the EXEED STERRA ET platform enable it to support long-distance, all-scenario, high-frequency driverless shuttle services.

Founded in 2017, WeRide has been at the forefront of Robotaxi R&D and commercial deployment. It has launched Robotaxi testing or operations across nine cities in three countries, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Ordos, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh, and Zurich, accumulating over 2,000 days of safe operation. The approval of the permit in Shanghai marks WeRide’s entry into its tenth city globally, showcasing the company’s robust autonomous driving technology and efficient global deployment capabilities.

Looking ahead, WeRide will deepen collaborations with global partners to accelerate Robotaxi technological advancements, scale commercial deployments, and elevate service standards — driving cities worldwide toward a smarter, safer, and more connected transportation future.
