Kuala Lumpur, 17 June 2025 – Berjaya Land Berhad (“Berjaya Land”), a subsidiary of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Impianan Utara Sdn Bhd (“Impianan Utara”) to jointly develop two transformative economic projects in Perlis: the exploration and mining of Rare Earth Elements (REE) and other minerals, and the cultivation of Napier hybrid grass and Blackthorn durian. These initiatives will be undertaken in collaboration with Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) Perlis, the state’s investment arm.
The MoU was signed at Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, in the presence of YAB Tuan Mohd Shukri Bin Ramli, Menteri Besar of Perlis, and Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, Founder & Advisor of Berjaya Corporation Berhad.
Strategic Initiatives for Perlis’ Economic Growth
1. Rare Earth Elements and Minerals Mining
The partnership will focus on the exploration and development of REE and strategic minerals in Perlis, leveraging Impianan Utara’s state-level approvals secured through MBI Perlis. This project aligns with Malaysia’s vision to become a competitive, sustainable player in the global rare earth industry. It is expected to drive state revenue, create jobs, and stimulate local economies, positioning Perlis as a hub for responsible mining.
2. Napier Grass and Blackthorn Durian Plantation
Berjaya Land and Impianan Utara will develop large-scale plantations for Napier hybrid grass and premium Blackthorn durian, in collaboration with MBI Perlis. This initiative aims to bolster Perlis’ agro economy by enhancing food security, supporting downstream processing, and tapping export markets. Revenue-sharing and lease payments will further contribute to state funds.
