Anwar Urges KEADILAN to Stay Committed to Reform Agenda in Putrajaya Meeting

PUTRAJAYA, July 27, 2025 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today called on KEADILAN Federal Territory members to remain steadfast in their pursuit of reform, emphasizing gradual but persistent change during a meeting held here. Speaking to party members, Anwar reiterated the importance of adhering to the principle of *islah mastata’tum*—striving for improvement to the best of their ability.

“We cannot perfect everything overnight, but we will advance this reform agenda step by step,” Anwar said, acknowledging the challenges while underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing shortcomings.

Reflecting on a peaceful gathering held yesterday, Anwar expressed gratitude to participants but voiced mild disappointment over the lack of substantive issues raised. “All I heard was a call to ‘bring down Anwar,’” he remarked, addressing criticisms directed at him. He welcomed constructive feedback but noted the absence of core issues being highlighted.

Responding to reports that the Opposition Leader plans to table a no-confidence motion, Anwar encouraged the move, affirming Malaysia’s democratic principles. “This is a democracy. If they have the numbers, bring it to Parliament,” he said.

Anwar acknowledged that his government is not flawless but stressed its openness to correcting weaknesses. “We are not arrogant. What is lacking, we will improve. What is unfinished, we will strive to complete,” he said, emphasizing phased reforms that are sustainable and widely accepted.

Highlighting KEADILAN’s historical role as a stronghold in the Federal Territory, Anwar urged party branches to remain vibrant through grassroots programs that engage all communities, regardless of race, age, or background.

The Prime Minister also defended the government’s bold decision to lower RON95 fuel prices to RM1.99 for Malaysians by redirecting subsidies away from foreign nationals. “This is a rational step to ensure national resources benefit the majority while easing the cost-of-living burden without undermining the economy,” he explained.

In closing, Anwar called on KEADILAN to remain a forward-looking party—open to criticism, mature in action, and united in purpose. “We are not perfect, but we are honest. As long as we have sincerity and the will to improve, we will surpass those who only shout without direction or solutions,” he said.
