KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, Oct 25, 2025 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday expressed profound honor in hosting Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and First Lady Rosângela da Silva during their official visit, hailing Lula as a global champion for workers’ rights, social equity, and humanitarian causes.
In a statement released following high-level talks, Anwar praised Lula’s vocal advocacy for an immediate end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and his push for intensified global action on climate change. “President Lula is a leader known for defending workers’ dignity, social justice, and humanitarian principles,” Anwar said.
The two leaders agreed to expand collaboration across key areas, including trade and investment, renewable energy, food security and agricultural technologies, education, cultural exchanges, and high-tech industries. This move aims to bolster economic resilience and innovation between the nations.
Anwar also shared a personal anecdote, crediting Brazilian scholar Dr. Ezraily Vargas for profoundly influencing his worldview. “I shared how [Vargas] once shaped my belief that national progress must be rooted in knowledge, research, and innovation,” the prime minister noted.
The visit, Anwar emphasized, underscores the shared commitment to “humanity, justice, and dignity” while fostering stronger bridges between Southeast Asia and Latin America. “This reflects our values — and our dedication to a more prosperous and humane world,” he added.
The bilateral engagements come amid growing interest in South-South partnerships, with Brazil and Malaysia eyeing opportunities to counter global economic headwinds through diversified trade routes and sustainable development initiatives. Further details on signed memoranda of understanding are expected in the coming days.
