PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA December 26. 2025 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has affirmed that Sabah continues to progress as a more advanced and prosperous state under the MADANI Government, with a primary focus on implementing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), more effective infrastructure management, and the empowerment of core sectors such as energy, tourism, modern agriculture, and the blue economy.
In a statement shared on his social media today, Anwar stated that all these initiatives are planned with a spirit of togetherness, transparency, and responsibility, ensuring that the benefits of development are enjoyed equitably by the people of Sabah, including those in rural and interior areas.
“Sabah continues to forge ahead as a more advanced and prosperous state under the MADANI Government through policies centred on commitment to MA63, more effective infrastructure management, and the empowerment of core sectors such as energy, tourism, modern agriculture, the blue economy, as well as stronger and more solid guarantees of security and sovereignty,” said Anwar.
He further emphasized that this resolve will be strengthened following the formation of the new Sabah State Government, in the wake of the 17th Sabah State Election on 29 November. The new state government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who has been reappointed for a second term, is expected to accelerate the development agenda through strategic investments, inclusive economy, empowerment of basic infrastructure, and the creation of quality job opportunities, in line with the state’s true potential.
“Insya-Allah, this resolve will be strengthened post-formation of the new Sabah State Government to accelerate the development agenda through strategic investments, an inclusive economy, empowerment of basic infrastructure, and the creation of quality job opportunities, aligned with the true potential of this state,” added Anwar.
This statement is seen as a positive signal from the federal government to continue close cooperation with the Sabah state government, even though Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which leads the state, secured a major victory in the recent election with support from local parties.
The MADANI Government has previously resolved several MA63 issues, including the handover of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd to the state and increased special allocations, while promising continued support for infrastructure projects such as water supply, roads, and electricity.
The people of Sabah are expected to feel the benefits of this cooperation in the near future, in line with the slogan of the “Land Below the Wind” that is prosperous and peaceful.
