PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA, Oct 3, 2025– Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim chaired the National Education Council (MPN) meeting this morning, which discussed the major directions of Malaysia’s education system, including the MPN Terms of Reference, the Malaysia Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2026-2035, the Malaysia Higher Education Plan (PPTM) 2026-2035, and the Review of General Subjects (MPU).

During the meeting, Anwar stressed to the Ministry of Education (KPM) and the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) that education reform cannot be carried out in isolation. Instead, it must harness the full strength of the nation by integrating elements of innovation, social aspects, artificial intelligence (AI), religion, and societal values.
“This education reform must truly liberate the soul, build identity, and shape the nation’s mindset,” Anwar said, according to meeting sources.
He also emphasized the country’s key challenge of reaching new heights in digitalization and AI while grounding itself in values, culture, and religion that form the framework of national thinking. “This is the balance we must preserve,” he added.
Anwar further instructed the MPN Committee to refine pressing issues such as the implementation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, AI integration, mastery of the Malay Language, English Language, and History, including the status of religious schools and pondok.
He also urged the strengthening of synergy between universities and the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) to build a competitive education future rooted in the nation’s identity.
The meeting comes amid the government’s efforts to bolster the national education system in the face of global challenges.
