AI Code Fest 2025 Kicks Off in Kuala Lumpur, Empowering Malaysia’s AI Talent to Transform Healthcare

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Aug 10, 2025 — Malaysia’s National AI Office (NAIO), under the Ministry of Digital, launched the AI Code Fest 2025, a two-day “buildathon” aimed at developing AI-driven healthcare solutions. The event, marking the opening of the ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 (AAIMS25), was officiated by YBhg. Tuan Fabian Bigar, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital.

Held in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Asia School of Business, Hive Global AI, and AI Tinkerers, the Code Fest brought together 156 participants, including developers, engineers, students, and professionals, to tackle pressing healthcare challenges. Competitors worked on innovative solutions across three tracks:

–  Supercharged Clinician: Automating administrative tasks to lighten the load on healthcare professionals.
Seamless Patient Journey: Designing intuitive, personalized patient experiences.
Proactive Public Health Shield: Creating early-warning systems to foster healthier communities.

Tuan Fabian Bigar emphasized the event’s role in positioning Malaysia as an AI producer, not just a consumer, aligning with the nation’s goal to become an “AI Nation” by 2030. “This Code Fest empowers brilliant minds to solve real-world healthcare challenges, showcasing Malaysia’s shift toward creating homegrown AI solutions,” he said.

Sam Majid, Head of NAIO, highlighted the event as a platform for digital talent to apply their skills practically. “The future of AI in Malaysia is being shaped in collaborative spaces like this, where innovation meets real-world impact,” he said.

The AI Code Fest is a key event under AAIMS25, Southeast Asia’s premier summit for AI collaboration, set for August 12-13, 2025, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). The summit will unite ASEAN policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, startups, and civil society to drive a sustainable and inclusive AI future for the region.

The Code Fest reflects NAIO’s commitment to inclusivity, talent development, and creating AI solutions that benefit all Malaysians, supporting the Prime Minister’s vision, outlined in the RMK-13 announcement, to embed AI across the economy, government, and society.
