AG’s Chambers Decides to Charge Suspects in Zara Qairina’s Bullying Case, Inquest to Proceed

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia.  August 18, 2025 – The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has decided to charge several suspects involved in the bullying case of Zara Qairina Mahathir, a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Tun Datu Mustapha, Papar, based on evidence obtained from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) investigation.

According to a media statement released today, this decision was made after reviewing the investigation papers related to Zara Qairina’s death. The statement clarified that the charges against the suspects for the bullying offense will not hinder the inquest process scheduled to begin next month.

AGC also confirmed that while charges are being filed, this will not affect the ongoing investigation by PDRM regarding the victim’s death, including the inquest proceedings in court involving 195 witnesses. This decision was taken to uphold justice, in line with the motto “Committed to Upholding Justice.”

The case has drawn public attention following Zara Qairina’s death last year, which is suspected to be linked to bullying issues at the school. Authorities have emphasized their commitment to resolving the case transparently and fairly.
