KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA February 7, 2026 – The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Federal Territory successfully detained 38 individuals during a special operation named Op Pusat Hiburan Series 1/2026, conducted around the capital starting at 12:30 midnight today (7 February 2026).
The operation, which involved a total strength of 68 officers and personnel, specifically targeted entertainment premises identified as hotspots for drug abuse and illicit substance activities.
Of the total number detained, 30 were men and 8 were women, aged between 22 and 61 years old. Preliminary screening tests (mainly urine tests) confirmed that all 38 individuals tested positive for various types of drugs.
Investigations revealed that the popular trend of drug use at these premises involves mixing drug powder into drinks, with a single packet of the drug powder being sold for a minimum price of RM280.
This operation was carried out in line with the recent strengthening and amendment of Act 283 – Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
The amendment has expanded the scope of AADK’s enforcement powers, allowing the agency to take action — including arrest, treatment, and rehabilitation — not only against drug addicts but also against recreational drug users and abusers of controlled substances.
According to AADK’s statement, the agency’s current primary focus is no longer merely on making arrests, but on ensuring that those involved gain access to effective treatment and rehabilitation programmes before their condition deteriorates further.
AADK emphasised that it will not compromise with any party, including premise owners who allow drug-related activities to take place on their premises.
The agency also issued a strong message to the public, especially young people, urging them not to treat illicit substances as a form of entertainment. The use of synthetic drugs in entertainment venues not only causes permanent damage to mental and physical health, but also carries a high risk of death due to overdose.
This large-scale raid demonstrates AADK’s continued commitment to eradicating drug abuse in nightlife venues, while adopting a more holistic public health-oriented approach that emphasises treatment and recovery.
