Malaysian Communications Ministry Backs King’s Call to Eradicate Bullying Culture from Schools

PUTRAJAYA,  Malaysia, Aug 18 – The Ministry of Communications has pledged full support for Sultan Ibrahim’s directive to curb bullying culture starting at the school level, warning that such behavior risks fostering a generation devoid of respect and compassion.

In a media statement released today, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil expressed gratitude for the audience granted by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara. Fahmi highlighted the King’s clear reminder that bullying not only harms victims’ emotional and mental well-being but also erodes core human values.

“The Ministry is committed to advancing His Majesty’s vision through a comprehensive National Anti-Bullying Awareness Campaign across television, radio, social media, and digital platforms,” Fahmi said. Additional measures include cross-ministry follow-ups to deliver anti-bullying messages to students, parents, and communities in an integrated manner, as well as embedding values of respect, discipline, and empathy into government communications and public programs.

The initiative aligns with the MADANI Government’s recent amendments to the Penal Code (Amendment) 2025 and the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) 2025, which aim to address bullying more decisively. Fahmi emphasized that messages will be tailored in simple, accessible formats for children and adolescents to instill mutual respect from a young age.

Urging collective action, the minister called on parents, schools, communities, and media outlets to unite in combating the issue. “Only through unified efforts can we nurture a generation of noble character, discipline, and compassion,” he added.

Fahmi serves as the government’s spokesperson in addition to his ministerial role. The statement underscores the administration’s broader push for societal harmony amid growing concerns over youth behavior.
