PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, July 25, 2025 – Malaysia, as the current ASEAN Chair, has expressed deep concern over recent clashes between Thailand and Cambodia’s military troops along their disputed border on July 24, 2025, which resulted in casualties.

In a press statement, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Haji Hasan urged both parties to exercise utmost restraint and take immediate steps to de-escalate tensions.
Highlighting the importance of resolving the border dispute through dialogue and diplomacy, the minister emphasized ASEAN solidarity and good neighborliness.
Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reached out to his counterparts, Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodia’s Hun Manet, appealing for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further hostilities and create space for peaceful resolution.
Malaysia stands ready to offer assistance as ASEAN Chair to facilitate an amicable solution acceptable to both parties.
