MELAKA, October 31, 2026 – Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Adly Zahari says completing digital education facilities for young people in Bukit Katil will be one of his main priorities if voters return him to the Melaka State Legislative Assembly in the 16th Melaka state election, Bernama reported.
The national news agency reported on X that Adly, the incumbent for the N17 Bukit Katil seat, spoke to reporters after the nomination process at Dewan Tun Ali in Bukit Katil this morning.
“If I am given the mandate, my main focus will indeed be to complete digital education for our children in the Bukit Katil state constituency, including for our entrepreneurs,” he said, as quoted by Bernama.
Adly, who is an Amanah vice-president and Deputy Defence Minister, said the effort was important so that the younger generation in the area could benefit from developments in digital technology, especially in education, security and economic development.
He said digital education should be given priority because a digitally literate generation could bring benefits in education, as well as help raise economic capability now and in the future.
Health clinic also on his list
Adly said the completion of a health clinic in the constituency was another matter that needed attention, adding that approval had already been obtained.
“We have already received approval from the Ministry of Health (KKM), and we have already secured the budget,” he said.
A tougher contest
Adly faces a four-cornered fight for Bukit Katil against Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Ridzuan Sarif, Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) candidate Dr Aliza Che Amran and independent candidate Abu Bakar Sabudin, according to Bernama and the Election Commission (SPR) candidate list.
Commenting on the contest, Adly described it as one of the bigger challenges he has faced, given that candidates from PN, Bersama and an independent are taking part.
However, he said his eight years of service as the Bukit Katil assemblyman, including the 22 months when PH was in government, gave voters a basis to judge his record.
“So we (PH) leave it to the people to judge all the efforts we have made, and we will continue to serve whatever the people decide. We truly appreciate it,” he said.
“But we do appeal to the people to give us the opportunity for a third term, and we are confident that what has been carried out will win the support of voters in the Bukit Katil state constituency,” he added.
Background
In the 15th Melaka state election in 2021, Adly won Bukit Katil with a majority of 1,057 votes after defeating three other candidates, namely Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Hasnoor Sdg Husin, PN’s Muhammad Al Afiz Yahya and independent candidate Abdul Hamid, Bernama reported.
Speaking in Ayer Keroh on October 30, Adly, who is also Melaka PH chairman, said the coalition was aiming to win 18 of the 24 seats it is contesting, including the five it won previously, Bernama reported.
The SPR has said 79 candidates are contesting the 28 state seats in this election, with 687,697 voters eligible to cast their ballots, and campaigning is allowed until 11.59 pm on November 13. The SPR has fixed November 10 for early voting and November 14 as polling day.
