ALOR GAJAH, October 31, 2026 – A total of 1,159 police personnel were deployed across Melaka today to keep nomination day for the 16th Melaka state election running smoothly, Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said, Bernama reported.
He said the deployment covered security and traffic control at all 28 nomination centres in the state. The national news agency also shared the report on X.
Dzulkhairi said that as of 10.15 am, the whole nomination process had gone on peacefully, without any disruption or provocation.
“I thank all party supporters for staying calm and not provoking anyone or causing any trouble,” he told reporters at Kompleks JAPERUN Machap Jaya in Bukit Bulat, according to Bernama.
Watch on social media during the campaign
He said police would keep monitoring the situation throughout the campaign period, including social media activity involving 3R issues (religion, race and royalty), slander, fake news and incitement.
Dzulkhairi again advised all political parties and their supporters to watch their behaviour and avoid any action that could disturb public order.
“We hope the (election campaign) process over these two weeks will run peacefully until polling day on November 14,” he said.
3,452 personnel on polling day
He said police strength would be raised to 3,452 personnel on polling day, covering duties at polling centres and polling streams.
Of that number, about 1,500 will come from outside Melaka, including from the Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor contingents, he said.
He added that traffic around the nomination centres had so far been under control, with no serious congestion.
Dzulkhairi spoke at the Machap Jaya nomination centre, where BN’s Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, PH’s Datuk Ginie Lim Siew Lin and Bersama’s Prasanth Kumar Brakasam will contest a three-cornered fight, according to the SPR’s official candidate list.
Key dates
The campaign runs for 14 days until 11.59 pm on November 13, Malaysiakini reported. In the 2021 Melaka state election, BN won 21 of the 28 seats, PH five and PN two, Bernama reported.
Nomination ran from 9 am to 10 am today at the 28 centres, and the Election Commission (SPR) has said 79 candidates are contesting the 28 seats in the Melaka State Legislative Assembly. The SPR has fixed November 10 for early voting and November 14 as polling day, with 687,697 voters eligible to cast their ballots.
