SHAH ALAM October 25, 2026 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his highest congratulations to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, as the state marks the Silver Jubilee of His Royal Highness’s 25-year reign.
In a post shared on X on Sunday morning, Anwar wrote in Malay, “Merafak Sembah dan Setinggi-tinggi Tahniah sempena Sambutan Jubli Perak 25 Tahun Pemerintahan Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah AlHaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah AlHaj, Sultan dan Yang Dipertuan Negeri Selangor Darul Ehsan serta segala daerah takluknya.” In English, the Prime Minister offered his respectful homage and highest congratulations to the Sultan on the celebration of the Silver Jubilee of his reign.
The post carried an official greeting card in deep red and gold, headed “Daulat Tuanku”, showing the Sultan in full yellow royal regalia beneath the Selangor state crest and the jubilee emblem marking the years 2001 to 2026. The card listed the Sultan’s royal honours and was signed “Sembah Takzim Daripada Anwar Ibrahim, Perdana Menteri”, a formal expression of deep respect from the Prime Minister.
A milestone day for Selangor
Sunday, October 25, is the high point of the jubilee celebrations, as it marks exactly 25 years of the Sultan’s reign. Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said last month that the main events would be held at Istana Alam Shah in Klang.
According to Ahmad Fadzli, the day is set to feature three main ceremonies: a guard of honour inspection with a 21-gun salute; the proclamation of titles and oath-taking ceremony for palace dignitaries and Dato’ Diraja of Selangor; and the conferment of Selangor state awards and honours.
To allow the people to join in the celebrations, the Selangor state government declared October 25 a public holiday throughout the state. Because the date falls on a Sunday, Monday, October 26, has been set as the replacement holiday. The Labour Department of Peninsular Malaysia has reminded private sector employers in Selangor that the replacement day must be given to workers whose rest day is Sunday, in line with the Employment Act 1955.
Celebrations kept modest
The jubilee celebrations began on September 28 with visits by the Sultan to the royal mausoleums in Kuala Selangor, Klang and Shah Alam. Twenty official programmes were lined up under themes covering community and welfare, religion, heritage and historical documentation, the environment, infrastructure, and sports and talent development. The official jubilee website lists the programme running until November 6.
The state secretary said the celebrations would be carried out on a modest and prudent scale in line with the Sultan’s decree, with spending capped at RM12 million. Among the events held so far, the Sultan took 149 orphans on a joyride flight on October 1, and attended a Yasin recital and prayer gathering at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam on October 2, where the Friday sermon was themed “From the throne to the hearts of the people, 25 years upholding sovereignty”. The programme also includes the launch of commemorative stamps, a silver coin and a book titled Menjulang Takhta at the Raja Tun Uda Library in Shah Alam.
Anwar’s message adds the federal government’s voice to the tributes being paid to the Sultan, who has reigned over Selangor, Malaysia’s most populous state, since 2001.
