PUTRAJAYA, October 24, 2026 — The Anugerah Seri Angkasa (ASA) 2026 awards night celebrated excellence in Malaysia’s broadcasting industry, with 60 categories contested, according to Erwin Khairul, Ketua Pengarah (Director-General) of Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia (JaPen).
In a post shared on X on Saturday night, he said the Malam Kemuncak ASA 2026 recognised the achievements of the country’s broadcasting industry, while the announcement of a RM15 million Dana Kandungan Kreatif (Creative Content Fund) opened up new opportunities for players in Malaysia’s creative industry. “Tahniah kepada semua pemenang,” he wrote, congratulating all the winners.
A RM15 million boost for creators
The fund was announced by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil at a press conference held in conjunction with the awards night at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). According to Bernama, as carried by Astro Awani, the RM15 million fund comes under the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and covers six categories, with applications opening on November 16.
The six categories are international co-production funding for feature films or animated features, the First Time Amateur Filmmaker (FAME) fund, co-production funding for television super telemovies, co-production funding for micro dramas for broadcasters or OTT platforms, the Super Telefilem Artis Veteran (STAR) fund for veteran artistes, and funding for national-themed public service announcements (PSA Kenegaraan).
Fahmi said the fund aimed to open opportunities for new talent, widen international collaboration, give veteran artistes room to keep working and encourage new forms of content, such as micro dramas, to meet the needs of the digital market. Applications can be made online through FINAS’s Creative Industry Management and Monitoring System (SPPIK), with eligibility requirements, guidelines and application procedures to be announced on FINAS’s official website and social media platforms.
Recognition for the whole industry
Utusan Malaysia reported Fahmi as describing the 37th edition of ASA as the government’s highest recognition of the contribution of everyone in the broadcasting industry, both in front of and behind the camera. He told mStar that because the awards are held every two years, the ministry would review its technical aspects and categories after this edition, adding that new forms of entertainment such as micro dramas might be considered in future categories.
According to UtusanMelayuPlus, the 60 categories comprised 40 television categories, 17 radio categories and three new media categories, alongside two special awards, the Anugerah Khas Juri (Jury Special Award) and Tokoh Seri Angkasa. Thirty of the categories had already been decided at the ASA Prelude ceremony on October 20, with the remaining 30 and the two special awards presented on Saturday night.
