Civil servants have been urged to plan carefully how they spend the RM1,500 Special Financial Aid announced under Budget 2027, with Information Department (JAPEN) Director-General Erwin Khairul Ahmad calling on recipients to put the money towards their families’ needs, their children’s education and their emergency savings.
Erwin shared on X on October 22, 2026 a short explainer video on the aid, writing that “Belanjawan 2027 mengumumkan Bantuan Khas Kewangan sebanyak RM1,500 sebagai sokongan tambahan buat warga perkhidmatan awam,” which translates as “Budget 2027 announced Special Financial Aid of RM1,500 as additional support for members of the public service.”

“Manfaatkan bantuan ini dengan perancangan yang bijak demi memenuhi keperluan keluarga, pendidikan anak-anak dan memperkukuh simpanan kecemasan,” he added, meaning “Make the most of this aid with wise planning to meet family needs, children’s education and to strengthen emergency savings.”
The 81-second video, narrated in Malay, opens with the line “Berita apa hari ini? Berita baik!” (“What’s the news today? Good news!”) and describes the payment as real good news for eligible civil servants. It explains that the aid gives families extra room to manage household needs, school expenses for their children or to top up emergency savings, and calls it one of the measures bringing financial relief to the public service.
The narrator notes that the money can help cover expenses that tend to arrive all at once, such as children’s needs, housing commitments or basic household purchases, and could also be used to reduce certain arrears or build up an emergency fund, depending on each family’s priorities and financial situation. Offering an example of how the money might be split, the video suggests setting part of it aside for urgent needs and saving the rest for unexpected costs. It closes with the message “Bantuan dimanfaatkan, amanah diteruskan” (“Make good use of the aid, carry on the trust”), urging recipients to plan their spending wisely so the whole family benefits.
The Special Financial Aid, known in Malay as Bantuan Khas Kewangan (BKK), was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, in the closing minutes of his Budget 2027 speech in the Dewan Rakyat on October 9, 2026. According to reports by RTM, Sinar Harian and Astro Awani, the RM1,500 payment will go to 1.3 million federal civil servants in Grade Utama B and below, including those on contract appointments.
“Mengenang jasa penjawat awam, kerajaan bersetuju menyalurkan bantuan khas kewangan untuk tahun depan, sebanyak RM1,500 kepada 1.3 juta penjawat awam Gred Utama B dan ke bawah termasuk lantikan kontrak,” Anwar said at the time, which translates as “In recognition of the service of civil servants, the government has agreed to channel special financial aid for next year of RM1,500 to 1.3 million civil servants in Grade Utama B and below, including contract appointments.”
More than one million government pensioners, including veterans with and without pensions, will receive RM750 each. Anwar said the aid would be paid in two instalments, the first before Hari Raya Aidilfitri and the second on the eve of the country’s 70th Merdeka celebrations. The government also agreed to give a special RM750 contribution to about 70,000 KAFA religious class teachers, takmir teachers, imams, bilal, tok siak, noja and marbut.
The announcement rounded off a wider package for the public sector in Budget 2027, which, as reported by Astro Awani, also includes raising the minimum pension to RM1,350 a month, a RM2.3 billion allocation to refurbish government quarters and maternity leave of up to 98 days. Civil servants interviewed by RTM after the budget was tabled welcomed the aid, saying it would ease household spending, especially at the start of the school session and during the festive seasons.
Budget 2027, themed “Malaysia MADANI: Menggapai di Langit, Mengakar di Bumi”, is the second budget under the 13th Malaysia Plan, which sets the country’s development framework for 2026 to 2030.
