PUTRAJAYA Oct 11, 2026 – Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has strongly condemned an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that killed 12 people and injured 309 others, expressing solidarity with Saudi Arabia and calling for restraint.
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, Anwar said he “unequivocally denounce[s] the attack,” which he noted had “taken innocent lives and left hundreds injured.” He extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a swift recovery.
“There can be no justification for attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure,” Anwar wrote. “To put innocent lives at risk can only deepen the suffering already wrought by this conflict and carry it into places that should remain beyond its reach.”
He added that Malaysia “stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people at this perilous hour” and expressed hope that “diplomacy and reason will prevail before the conflict widens still further.”
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said the attack on Saturday struck a passenger terminal at the airport serving the capital. The dead included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshis, and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan. Some of the more than 300 wounded were in critical condition.
A Saudi-led military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government blamed the Iran-backed Houthis for the strike, describing it as a “full-fledged war crime” and vowing a firm response. The incident was the latest and deadliest in a series of attacks on Saudi airports this week amid escalating fighting in Yemen.
Airport operations were temporarily suspended while damage assessments continued. Anwar’s statement aligns with earlier Malaysian positions opposing attacks on civilian sites in the region.
