KUALA LUMPUR October 1, 2026 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to exchange views on regional developments and Malaysia–Pakistan relations, Anwar said in a statement posted on his official X account.
Anwar described Sharif as “my friend” and said the call covered both the wider regional picture and ties between the two countries.
“I held a telephone conversation with my friend, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, today to exchange views on regional developments as well as Malaysia–Pakistan relations,” he wrote.
He also thanked Sharif for remembering his family and offering condolences following the death of his brother.
“I deeply appreciate his remembrance and condolences on the passing of my brother,” Anwar said.
The MADANI Government leader did not detail the specific regional issues discussed during the call in his post.
Malaysia and Pakistan maintain longstanding diplomatic and people-to-people links. Anwar’s statement framed the exchange as both a bilateral check-in and an expression of personal solidarity at a time of family bereavement.
The post was accompanied by a photograph on X.
