PUTRAJAYA, Sept 7 2026 — The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has directed Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) to prepare a comprehensive report on the death of a student who took part in the Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge (KKEC) 2026 at the university’s Jengka Campus in Pahang last Saturday.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the report was required to establish the cause of the incident and to determine the follow-up action needed to prevent a similar tragedy.
“We take seriously every matter involving students participating in programmes of this nature,” he told reporters after presenting tuition-fee sponsorship letters to Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) students.
“I have asked UiTM to prepare a comprehensive report so that we can determine the causes as well as the subsequent action that needs to be taken.”
Zambry said MOHE would ensure that student safety and welfare remain a priority whenever such programmes are held.
Based on an initial report received by the ministry, the incident is believed to have been linked to excessive heat, which affected several students. He noted that the training programme is usually held annually.
“On behalf of MOHE, I extend my deepest condolences to the student’s family and to those who are currently receiving treatment. We pray that their condition will improve and that they will be able to continue their studies,” he said.
The deceased, Fadhlan Fakhry Solana Mohd Fellimal, 21, was a student at UiTM Negeri Sembilan’s Seremban Campus. He reportedly collapsed while taking part in the event last Friday, was treated at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HOSHAS) in Temerloh, and was pronounced dead at about 2pm on Saturday.
Seven other UiTM students are still receiving treatment and undergoing medical monitoring after a heat-related incident during a trail event under KKEC 2026.
Maran police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai said initial investigations found that the participants were believed to have experienced breathing difficulties during the event and were taken to Jengka Hospital. Their condition later deteriorated after a drop in oxygen levels.
Fadhlan Fakhry, the second of four siblings, was laid to rest at the Elmina Muslim Cemetery in Shah Alam, Selangor, yesterday.
