FLORIDA Sept 1, 2026 – A U.S. official said Iranian ballistic missiles fired at Jordan on Tuesday caused no major damage, after Jordan reported intercepting most of a 13-missile barrage and both Washington and Amman said there were no casualties.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it launched a “heavy” ballistic missile attack on Camp Titin, a U.S. Marine facility near Aqaba on the Gulf of Aqaba. Iranian outlets claimed the strike killed a large number of U.S. personnel and destroyed installations and attack helicopters. Those claims have not been independently confirmed.
Jordan’s armed forces said 13 ballistic missiles entered the kingdom’s airspace from Iranian territory. Air defenses intercepted and destroyed 10; three fell in remote areas away from populated centers. The military reported no deaths or injuries and said specialized teams were securing debris sites.
Two U.S. officials told Reuters there were no reported U.S. casualties at facilities in Jordan based on initial information. Social media videos circulating after the attack showed what users described as medevac helicopters and apparent intercepts or impacts near Aqaba; those clips have not been independently verified as evidence of base damage.
The exchange followed U.S. strikes on Iranian targets around the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington said were a response to Iranian mine-laying attempts and earlier missile fire at U.S. forces in Jordan. President Trump warned that further Iranian retaliation would draw a stronger U.S. response. Iran framed its latest launch as part of a broader reply to U.S. operations, including strikes that Iranian officials said hit civilian areas.
The incident is the latest in a months-long pattern of Iranian attacks on U.S.-linked sites in Jordan. Earlier waves in July produced confirmed U.S. fatalities at other bases, including Muwaffaq Salti Air Base. Official statements from Jordan and the United States have repeatedly emphasized high interception rates and limited damage, while Iranian statements have claimed far greater effects. Independent confirmation of Tuesday night’s results remains limited.
