TEHRAN Sept 2, 2026 – Iran says it targeted a U.S. military base in Bahrain as part of a new exchange of strikes on September 1, 2026, according to Iranian state media and accounts that circulated the claim, including BRICS News.
Iranian outlets said the army launched drones at radar sites and U.S. facilities at Sheikh Isa Air Base, a Bahraini installation used by American forces for aircraft and drone-related support. The announcement followed U.S. Central Command strikes the same day on Iranian radar, air-defense, communications, and maritime targets. CENTCOM said those raids came after Iranian attacks on commercial tankers and U.S. forces in the region.
Bahrain sounded air-raid alerts and later reported intercepting incoming drones. Independent confirmation of major new damage at the targeted sites has not been issued by U.S. or Bahraini authorities as of early September 2.
The claim fits a pattern that has defined the 2026 U.S.-Iran war, which began in late February. Bahrain hosts Naval Support Activity Bahrain, headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet and the only permanent U.S. naval base in the Middle East. Repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks between February and June damaged the command headquarters, at least a dozen other buildings, and two satellite communications terminals, according to a Wall Street Journal review of satellite imagery. The Pentagon said operations continued and that no U.S. personnel were killed at the base, while acknowledging most personnel had been evacuated.

Repair estimates for earlier damage at the Bahrain facility have been placed in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Both sides have accused the other of violating earlier cease-fire understandings. The latest round also included Iranian claims of strikes on U.S.-linked sites in Kuwait and Jordan. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains a flashpoint, with each new radar or tanker incident quickly producing another cycle of retaliation.
