PETALING JAYA, Aug 29 2026 – Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo attended the 2026 Zhong Yuan Festival dinner in Bandar Sri Damansara on Friday, joining Selangor assembly members Jamaliah Jamaluddin and Pua Pei Ling at the community event marking the Hungry Ghost Festival.
The gathering, organised by the Sri Damansara Zhong Yuan association at Jalan Margosa, featured a shrine to Tai Su Yeah and presentations of certificates and gifts. Gobind, who is also DAP national chairman and MP for P106 Damansara, said he wanted to experience the festival atmosphere firsthand with Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah and Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Pua Pei Ling.
In a post on Saturday, Gobind said community well-being, harmony and unity in Damansara remain close to his heart. He announced cash contributions to Pertubuhan Taman Ehsan, the parent-teacher association of SKJC Desa Jaya 2, Pusat Hemodialisis Aman Puri and Pertubuhan Buddha Ta Su Yen Selangor to support their upcoming work.
“Kedamaian dan kemakmuran sebeginilah yang menjadikan tanah air kita cukup indah dan tidak ternilai,” he wrote.
The Hungry Ghost Festival, also known as Zhong Yuan Jie, falls in the seventh lunar month, which in 2026 runs from mid-August into early September. Communities typically hold offerings, prayers and dinners to honour ancestors and wandering spirits. The Sri Damansara dinner took place on the 16th day of the lunar month.
Jamaliah is Selangor’s executive councillor for public health, environment, climate change and green technology. Pua represents Bukit Lanjan for PKR. Their joint appearance with Gobind underscored cooperation across party and community lines in the Damansara area.
