KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 2026 — Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has returned home after being discharged from hospital following elective surgery for a para-umbilical hernia.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) late Wednesday, the 79-year-old leader shared a photograph of himself seated in a study, reading a book, with the simple caption: “Alhamdulillah, back home. 🤲”
Anwar underwent a successful laparoscopic procedure on Monday, August 10 — the day he turned 79 — to treat the abdominal hernia. The head of his medical team, Dr Asri Ranga Abdullah Ramaiah, confirmed the operation went smoothly under a team of specialists. He remained under observation and received physiotherapy before being cleared for discharge on August 12.
His wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, earlier thanked well-wishers for their prayers and said the prime minister was expected to return home that day. Anwar has a history of shoulder and back issues but has continued to lead the government since taking office in 2022.
The post, which quickly drew messages of support from Malaysians, shows the prime minister looking relaxed and recovered as he resumes life at home.
