In a statement today, KPDN Deputy Director-General of Enforcement (Operations) Tuan Shamsul Nizam bin Khalil revealed that two companies have committed to maintaining current prices, while two others cited sales tax adjustments as the reason for price changes. Another two companies are engaged in ongoing discussions with the ministry.

The ministry is monitoring price movements of goods and services, particularly those exceeding set thresholds, requiring businesses to comply with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM). KPDN warned that strict action will be taken against unjustified price hikes that violate anti-profiteering laws. Individuals found guilty of profiteering face fines up to RM100,000, three years in prison, or both, while companies could be fined up to RM50,000.

“KPDN is committed to ensuring traders adhere to the law and is open to providing guidance on anti-profiteering principles,” Shamsul Nizam said. The enforcement actions are part of the KITA GEMPUR initiative, launched on October 19, 2024, to combat price manipulation in business activities.

The public is urged to report price manipulation with complete and accurate details through various channels, including the Enforcement Command Centre at 03-8882 6245/6088, WhatsApp at 012-665 4292, the KPDN e-Complaint Portal at https://eaduan.kpdn.gov.my, the Call Centre at 1-800-888-800, or the Ez ADU KPDN mobile app.

KPDN reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring fair pricing across Malaysia. – BERNAMA
