NEGERI SEMBILAN July 21 2026 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) Communications Director Dato’ Seri Fahmi Fadzil has urged Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ) to stop portraying the coalition as insensitive to Malay and Islamic concerns.
In a statement reported by Free Malaysia Today, Fahmi said PH has several prominent Malay-Muslim leaders who are deeply attuned to these issues. He listed PKR President Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah President Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabu, Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad, PKR vice-president Dato’ Seri Amiruddin Sha’ri, and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun as examples.
“Anwar Ibrahim is not Malay-Muslim? Muhammad Sabu is not Malay-Muslim? Dzulkefly Ahmad, Amiruddin Sha’ri, Aminuddin Harun — are they not Malay-Muslim? I think we should stop playing with these falsehoods,” Fahmi said.
He advised Khairy to be fair and avoid creating a negative perception by denying the presence of Malay-Islamic leadership within PH.
Fahmi also emphasised his personal background, noting that his late grandfather and grandmother were strong Umno supporters who fought for Malay and Islamic interests. As a Malay himself, he said he is very sensitive to these matters.
Khairy Jamaluddin had earlier claimed that some Umno members feel the current federal government is less attentive to Malay sensitivities and has failed to deliver on previous promises. He linked this to Barisan Nasional’s decision to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election (PRN Negeri9), describing it as a signal to PH.
Fahmi’s response comes amid active campaigning for the Negeri Sembilan state polls, where political narratives around Malay and Islamic issues are expected to feature prominently.
The exchange highlights ongoing political tensions between PH and opposition parties over issues of ethnic and religious representation in governance.
Fahmi stressed that such claims should be based on facts rather than attempts to create divisive perceptions ahead of the state election.
