KUALA LUMPUR 16 July 2026 — In a historic first, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has formed a strategic partnership with Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2026 to promote and strengthen Malaysian products and brands in the premium segment.
The collaboration is part of the newly launched “Jom Beli Produk Malaysia (JOM MALAYSIA)” movement, which was introduced on 27 June 2026 as a major transformation of the long-running “Buy Malaysian Goods” campaign that began in 1984.
This partnership positions KLFW as a high-profile international platform to showcase and elevate local products and brands. The event is expected to attract industry players, fashion enthusiasts, tourists, and media from Malaysia and abroad.
Aligned with Four Key Pillars of JOM MALAYSIA
KPDN said the collaboration with KLFW 2026 fully supports the four core pillars of the JOM MALAYSIA movement:
- National Movement: Positioning JOM MALAYSIA as a national agenda rooted in economic patriotism, with local products and services serving as key drivers of the country’s economic growth.
- Whole-of-Nation Approach: Encouraging participation from all stakeholders — government agencies, industry players, NGOs, and the public — as active drivers of the initiative.
- Inclusivity of Local Products: Expanding the scope beyond goods to include various types of local products and services.
- Market Expansion: Turning JOM MALAYSIA into a platform that not only encourages domestic support but also introduces Malaysian products to international tourists and consumers, helping local brands move from local to global markets.
KLFW 2026 Highlights
KLFW 2026 will take place from 3 to 9 August 2026 at the Esplanade, KLCC. The event will feature fashion shows, brand exhibitions, business matching sessions, industry talks, and engagement activities involving fashion and lifestyle players.
This edition will involve around 60 local brands, 35 fashion designers, and more than 20 strategic industry partners. KPDN noted that KLFW serves not only as a showcase of creativity and innovation but also as a strategic platform to expand business opportunities, attract investments, and open new market access for Malaysian products and brands.
Special Segment: “Fashion Forward Batik Malaysia”
A major highlight of KLFW 2026 will be the special segment “Fashion Forward Batik Malaysia”, which will present 30 exclusive contemporary designs by 10 local fashion designers. The collection uses authentic batik textiles sourced from Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia, reinterpreted in modern styles to demonstrate that Malaysia’s cultural heritage can appeal to premium and international markets.
This collaboration marks a significant step in using the fashion industry as a catalyst to strengthen the “Jom Beli Produk Malaysia” agenda and position Malaysian brands on the global premium stage.
