ALOR SETAR, June 13, 2026 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has called on PAS members and election machinery to adopt a disciplined, data-driven, and long-term approach to grassroots work, rather than waiting for the announcement of the next general election (PRU16).
Speaking at the launch of PAS Kedah’s PRU16 election machinery, which drew thousands of attendees, Dr. Samsuri emphasised that victory requires more than enthusiasm. “In this struggle, victory does not come from spirit alone. It demands clear strategy, high discipline, continuous sacrifice, and consistent efforts,” he said.
Dr. Samsuri, who is also a PAS vice-president, highlighted the party’s elevated responsibilities as it positions itself to lead the country. “PAS today bears a greater responsibility. Decisions are not made hastily or unilaterally, but through consultation (musyawarah), data, analysis, and forward-thinking considerations. We are no longer playing in a small arena but carrying a big mandate to lead the people and bring Malaysia towards a better direction,” he added.
He urged the party’s election machinery not to remain idle until polling day. “I call on the entire machinery to continue working with long breath. Do not wait for the election to be announced before moving. Every house visited, every people’s problem addressed, every slander answered with patience, and every instruction executed with discipline are part of the victory we are building,” Dr. Samsuri said.
The event, held at night with PAS leaders in traditional baju Melayu and songkok, featured a large crowd waving green flags, speeches, and ceremonial elements marking the official activation of Kedah’s election machinery.
Dr. Samsuri stressed that the goal extends beyond gaining power. “Victory is not just to rule, but to fulfil the mandate, build society, educate the ummah, strengthen institutions, and bring solutions to the people’s problems. Continue the work. Organise the steps. Strengthen the ranks. Lengthen the breath of the struggle.”
He concluded with optimism: “Insya-Allah, with organised efforts and trust in Allah SWT, the victory built today will become the foundation for a brighter future for religion, people, and nation.”
The launch comes as PAS and PN intensify preparations for the upcoming general election, with Dr. Samsuri having assumed the role of PN chairman earlier this year following a leadership transition. Analysts view his technocratic background — as an aerospace engineer with a PhD from the University of Leeds — as helping present a more moderate and administrative face for the opposition coalition.
