PUTRAJAYA June 12, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today received a courtesy visit from a high-level Ericsson delegation led by President and CEO Börje Ekholm. The meeting focused on strengthening Malaysia’s digital infrastructure, expanding 5G adoption, and fostering sustainable technological growth.
In a statement posted on X, Anwar highlighted discussions on the latest digital technology developments, broader 5G rollout, and deeper bilateral cooperation to bolster the nation’s digital economy. The leaders also addressed the need for greener, more sustainable telecommunications networks in line with Malaysia’s net-zero emissions aspirations.
“More companies should leverage 5G technology to enhance productivity, innovation, and competitiveness,” Anwar said.
The Prime Minister welcomed Ericsson’s confidence in Malaysia’s progress in building robust digital infrastructure, including 5G networks, data centres, and efforts to strengthen digital security and sovereignty. He also expressed appreciation for Ericsson’s commitment to developing local talent through training programmes, technology transfer, and partnerships with universities and educational institutions.
Anwar described the longstanding relationship with Ericsson as positive and expressed optimism that continued collaboration—built on stability and trust—would unlock further opportunities for digital economic growth and national prosperity.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from both sides. Group photographs and discussion images released by the Prime Minister’s Office show Anwar engaging directly with Ekholm and the Ericsson team in a formal setting.
This latest engagement builds on previous partnerships between Malaysia and Ericsson aimed at positioning the country as a regional leader in 5G and digital technologies. Ericsson has been a key player in Malaysia’s telecommunications sector for decades.
The government continues to prioritise digital transformation under the Malaysia MADANI framework, with hashtags #MalaysiaMADANI, #MADANIbekerja, and #YakinMADANI accompanying Anwar’s post.
