TEHRAN, June 11, 2026 — Iran’s Tasnim News Agency has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s assertions that Iranian officials reached out directly to him, labeling the claims as fabricated amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
A senior Iranian source told Tasnim that “no contact has been made” with the Trump administration, dismissing reports of negotiations or phone calls as a “pure lie.” The agency emphasized that Iran will respond militarily to any aggressions, maintaining its hardline stance.
The denial follows circulating reports, including a Fox News segment, in which Trump allegedly described receiving calls from top Iranian officials while in the Situation Room, urging him to halt U.S. or allied bombings. In the clip, an Iranian spokesman is seen reacting dismissively to the claims.
This latest exchange comes against a backdrop of heightened conflict involving U.S. strikes on Iranian targets, Israeli operations, and threats to the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has repeatedly spoken of ongoing “productive discussions” with Iran, including potential deals on de-escalation and reopening key shipping routes. Iranian state-affiliated media, however, has consistently pushed back, denying direct or indirect talks.
Tasnim, closely linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has previously reported that Tehran has walked away from communications citing Israeli actions and U.S. violations of ceasefires.
The conflicting narratives underscore deep distrust between Washington and Tehran, with both sides using public statements to shape perceptions amid volatile regional dynamics. Oil markets and global shipping remain on edge due to potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Further developments are expected as diplomatic channels, indirect or otherwise, continue to be tested.
